Best Weapons Summary

The above is the order we recommend you prioritize making weapons. The weapon crafting priority is left-to-right, so build an Ant Club then a Larva Blade, etc. (This is in addition to crafting the highest level Axe and Hammer you have access to!)

Note that the Mint Mallet is currently the only real Tier 3 tool available, but more are expected to be added in further updates to the game.

Best Weapon - Early Game

Must Have Weapons

At the very outset of the game you'll definitely want to make a Pebblet Spear as fast as possible. This will give you the advantage over small bugs such as Mites and Weevils. You will then want to focus on crafting the Sprig Bow as fast as possible.

How To Get Gnat Fuzz

Gnat Fuzz is obtained by killing Gnats. The problem with Gnats is that there is no real reliable way to find them early on. They do however seem to congregate somewhat frequently around the Mystery Machine in the center of the map! Try heading here - but if you don't see any Gnats nearby right away feel free to move on and explore other parts of the map.

Also note that when you kill a Gnat, their body will fall down and possibly roll around somewhere, so you will need to search for it. They can be hard to find at night, so we recommend during this during the day (or bringing a Torch.)

Where To Get Thistle Needles

Bows can't be used without ammunition - you'll need to make arrows as well! These will require Thistle Needles, which can be obtained by hitting the leaves of Thistles with your axe! You can find Thistles in the locations on the map above - most of these will be patrolled by Spiders, so be cautious.

Best Weapon - Mid Game

Must Have Weapons

Prioritize The Ant Club

The Ant Club is an extremely solid choice and probably the best weapon to have in the mid-game. It will allow you to smoothly take out Ladybugs and contend with many other larger bugs. Note that you'll have to take out a lot of ants (and some soldier ants too) to get the necessary ingredients, so you'll want to have the best available armor and weapons equipped!

Larva Blade As A 1H Alternative

The Larva Blade is faster, but weaker alternative to the Ant Club. If by chance you have killed Larva but not Ant Soldiers yet, you should try to make this dagger first. One additional advantage to this is that you can dual wield it with a Torch when in caves!

Best Weapon - For The Late Game

Must Have Weapons

Although there are other strong weapons available in the "late" stage of the game, the best weapon to craft is by far the Mint Mallet. On your third swing with this Tier 3 item you'll be able to stun enemies, giving you some much needed downtime. With this, you can kill an Orb Weaver in 6-7 hits!

↑ 2 Orb Weavers at the same time? No problem if you've got the Mint Mallet.

This item also acts as a hammer, being able to break large rocks, as well as Quartzite boulders.

Need An Insect Hammer

To get the Mint Chunks required for this hammer, you'll need the Level 2 Tool known as the Insect Hammer. This will allow you to mine and harvest mints.

Spider Fang Dagger

In Patch 0.2.0, this dagger actually received a damage buff, making it a viable alternative to the Mint Mallet. This weapon provides you with more agility than the lumbering Mint Mallet, so it's better for players who like to run circles around opponents. In addition to this, daggers can be used to cut grass rather quickly.

Insect Bow

The Insect Bow is a straight up improvement to the Sprig Bow. However, its damage doesn't compare to melee weapons, and it in general takes far too long to kill something with it. We recommend making this bow, but you don't need to use it all the time. If you're going to use a bow, make sure that you get the Sharpshooter Perk, as that will increase your ranged damage.
