Well, they'll just quote you some specs and maybe some brands that meet those specs.. to say otherwise is against the law.

OK, here we go. I talked with Jeremy Stroud (Kioti Product Support Supervisor) today about the Kioti Warranty and which Tractor Hydraulic fluids can be used. I specifically asked about Napa Premium Heavy Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid. NAPA fluid was given the green light:greenflag::trafficlight:. I was driving when he returned my call, so I did not go into the others. He stated on the call that it must be a multi grade (10W20, 10W30, etc.) hydraulic/transmission fluid rated for finial drive, gears, wet brakes, etc. It must also say common fluid, common sump or common reservoir. I asked him to email me what we talked about, because I was on the road. See the attached email. Jeremy at Kioti was very knowledgeable and helpful. Thank You Jeremy!!!

My thoughts: Single weight oils are not recommend and may void your warranty if the oil is found to be the culprit. The tolerances in these new tractors are tight. It takes time for strait weight oil to warm and thin. Each time this happens you cause small amounts of wear which causes components to fail early.:salute: I hope this helps.

                    Midniteoyl,
You are right, they can't tell you what brand of oil to use as long as it meet the requirements set forth by the engineers who designed the equipment. Example: if you put Dextron 6 in a tractor and it caused the seals to split and crack, they would most likely not replace every seal in the tractor for free. It has to be the correct specs. I know you know this already, but I wanted to add my :2cents:.

Thank you, for all your reasearch.
I did the 50hr on the Motor and front axle last Sunday, I used Rotella T6 in the motor, and 80/90 synthetic blend that I had already at home on the shelf in the front axle. I was thinking the 80/90 might give more cushion in a high load situation, front end in a bind etc, plus I already had it.

My wife picked up the Napa fluid today for me, so I can do the hydro sometime this weekend.

                      Thanks again.

                      FAQs

Is tractor hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid the same? ›

Interestingly, hydraulic fluids for tractors are NOT the same as other hydraulic oils. Tractor hydraulic fluids are specially designed to fulfill multiple functions such as transmissions and differentials, final drives, hydraulics, power steering, wet brakes, and more.

Is premium universal tractor fluid the same as hydraulic fluid? ›

One simple answer would be that tractor fluids and hydraulic oils are products that have different formulations and are for different purposes. They are designed for applications in different tractor and heavy-duty machinery components.

Do you check tractor hydraulic fluid with tractor running? ›

IMPORTANT: Never check the hydraulic fluid level with the tractor running. The engine must be turned off to get an accurate read. View the oil level in sight glass (A). The level should be between the marks on the glass with the optimal level being just beneath the top mark.

Can I use hydraulic oil instead of hydraulic fluid? ›

Some people use hydraulic oil and fluid interchangeably, although that isn't always accurate! Hydraulic fluid can also include water, water-oil emulsions, salt solutions, and hydraulic oil.

Can hydraulic fluid be used as transmission fluid? ›

Even though the transmission will still shift when using hydraulic fluid, there are some shortcomings to this — the primary being that these fluids aren't designed to be exposed to high levels of heat and are prone to oxidation.

What is a substitute for hydraulic fluid in a tractor? ›

Water: Water has low compressibility, making it an excellent hydraulic fluid substitute. Plus, it has unrivaled fire-resistance properties.

How do you bleed air from a tractor hydraulic system? ›

How to Bleed Air from a Hydraulic System
                      1. Locate the bleed valve. This valve is used to release excess pressure and air from the system.
                      2. Open the bleed valve. Open the bleed valve by turning it counterclockwise until it is fully open.
                      3. Allow the air to escape. ...
                      4. Close the bleed valve. ...
                      5. Check the system pressure.

How long does hydraulic fluid last in a tractor? ›

Because fluids are the lifeblood of any hydraulic system, you must take care to keep fluid levels and purity within the acceptable range. Check the fluids after the first 100 hours of operation, and replace them every 1000 hours after that, or as recommended by the manufacturer.

What color should tractor hydraulic fluid be? ›

Looking at the hydraulic fluid is the simplest way to determine if it may be contaminated. Clean fluid is almost clear to amber in color. A milky, dark, or otherwise abnormal color may indicate the presence of one or more contaminants.

What viscosity is tractor transmission fluid? ›

Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is a SAE viscosity grade 10W-30 and meets API GL-4 gear oil specifications. FORMULA 500® Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid should not be used where a Caterpillar TO-4 fluid is required.

                      Can I use 20w50 in a hydrostatic transmission? ›

Use in hydrostatic transmissions that require 15W-50 or 20W-50 oil recommended for API SM, SL, SJ, SH or SG, including (not limited to) those found in zero-turn, riding and stand-on mowers made by SCAG*, Toro*, Ferris*, Snapper Pro*, Gravely*, Ariens*, Exmark*, Walker*, Hustler*, Wright*, Dixie Chopper*, John Deere*, ...

Will hydraulic fluid work for a hydrostatic transmission? ›

The hydrostatic transmission transmits energy using hydraulic fluid. The usual transmission has two hydraulic devices; one working as a variable displacement pump and the other working as a motor connected by hydraulic lines.

Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is a SAE viscosity grade 10W-30 and meets API GL-4 gear oil specifications.

What kind of hydraulic oil do you use in a tractor? ›

Mobil Delvac™ Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is an extra high performance multipurpose tractor lubricant engineered to meet or exceed transmission and hydraulic fluid requirements.

Does a hydrostatic transmission use hydraulic fluid? ›

The hydrostatic transmission transmits energy using hydraulic fluid. The usual transmission has two hydraulic devices; one working as a variable displacement pump and the other working as a motor connected by hydraulic lines.

What is the same as transmission fluid? ›

Gear oil is a lubricant for manual transmission while transmission fluid is a lubricant for the automatic transmission of semi-trucks and other heavy and light-duty vehicles. In essence, they perform the same functions.
