Many of us have struggled with finding a suitable hydraulic oil for our Kioti's in local markets. I have used NAPA Premium Heavy Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid for a few years in my old tractor and now in my new Kioti. It is not the cheapest, but it is reasonable plus you know what you are getting. The mulit grade hydraulic fluid specified in my owner's manual are hard to find. I found the tech line for NAPA's hydraulic oil. After calling, these are the oil specs. I also put the tech line info below. Note: this is for U.S. markets.

Part number "NHF 85405" five gallon bucket
    Grade 10W-20

    Pour Point (ーC):by ASTM D 97 -32
    API Gravity 31.3
Boiling Point: Not determined. Expected to be > 260ーC (500ーF).

Both will fit the bill; however, NAPA has over 6000 locations, to TSC's 1200+. People should be able to get one of the oils.

TSC will ship $4.99 to your door, don't have to leave your house. Now that beats driving to NAPA.

Call Terry from Martin above. He is one of the Oil techs who can answer your concerns. When I talked with him, He sure did not sound as if he was guessing. I would guess the product has changed to keep up with the new machine requirements, and they have not updated the MSDS sheet. I also emailed their customer service center asking for the most up to date full specs of the oil. I like stuff in black and white. I will post their reply.

I am fortunate in that I drive right by both a tractor supply and NAPA on my way to work...
That is in addition to Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, Reilly's, Wal Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Northern Tool, Harbor Freight...
                  No wonder I stay broke...LOL
In all seriousness, we've been using tractor supply products for years with good results...
NAPA carries excellent parts and oil also...

Yeah NAPA and TSC are both great companies and both have good products.
When I had the Kubota the shop here wanted $400 for oil change at 50 hours, I did it for $150, a lot of difference, priced out oil and TSC was the best price.

Just a FYI, anytime doing shopping on the net at places do a search for "Coupon Codes" "name of store", most have a online coupon code that you enter at checkout, might be 10% off 15% or more, or free shipping, never know some don't have any codes some do. Just a tip to save a few coins.

                      FAQs

Is tractor hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid the same? ›

Interestingly, hydraulic fluids for tractors are NOT the same as other hydraulic oils. Tractor hydraulic fluids are specially designed to fulfill multiple functions such as transmissions and differentials, final drives, hydraulics, power steering, wet brakes, and more.

Is premium universal tractor fluid the same as hydraulic fluid? ›

One simple answer would be that tractor fluids and hydraulic oils are products that have different formulations and are for different purposes. They are designed for applications in different tractor and heavy-duty machinery components.

Do you check tractor hydraulic fluid with tractor running? ›

IMPORTANT: Never check the hydraulic fluid level with the tractor running. The engine must be turned off to get an accurate read. View the oil level in sight glass (A). The level should be between the marks on the glass with the optimal level being just beneath the top mark.

Can I use hydraulic oil instead of hydraulic fluid? ›

Some people use hydraulic oil and fluid interchangeably, although that isn't always accurate! Hydraulic fluid can also include water, water-oil emulsions, salt solutions, and hydraulic oil.

Can hydraulic fluid be used as transmission fluid? ›

Even though the transmission will still shift when using hydraulic fluid, there are some shortcomings to this — the primary being that these fluids aren't designed to be exposed to high levels of heat and are prone to oxidation.

What is a substitute for hydraulic fluid in a tractor? ›

Water: Water has low compressibility, making it an excellent hydraulic fluid substitute. Plus, it has unrivaled fire-resistance properties.

Is it OK to mix different brands of hydraulic fluid? ›

As far as possible, it is always best to avoid mixing different hydraulic fluids. This is because the technical properties could be spoiled by chemical reactions between different additives.

What viscosity is tractor transmission fluid? ›

Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is a SAE viscosity grade 10W-30 and meets API GL-4 gear oil specifications. FORMULA 500® Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid should not be used where a Caterpillar TO-4 fluid is required.

What is the difference between ATF and hydraulic fluid? ›

ATFs are usually less viscous and designed to work under lower pressures and temperatures than hydraulic fluids. The operating temperature range of hydraulic fluids is larger i.e. they maintain their viscosity better in a broader temperature range. Also hydraulic fluids are very pure compared to ATFs.

How long does hydraulic fluid last in a tractor? ›

Because fluids are the lifeblood of any hydraulic system, you must take care to keep fluid levels and purity within the acceptable range. Check the fluids after the first 100 hours of operation, and replace them every 1000 hours after that, or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Do you have to bleed a hydraulic system on a tractor? ›

The reason you need to bleed the hydraulic system is to remove any trapped air in the hydraulic system that might prevent proper operation. 1. Park the tractor safely and securely.

What color should tractor hydraulic fluid be? ›

Looking at the hydraulic fluid is the simplest way to determine if it may be contaminated. Clean fluid is almost clear to amber in color. A milky, dark, or otherwise abnormal color may indicate the presence of one or more contaminants.

                      Can I use 20w50 in a hydrostatic transmission? ›

Use in hydrostatic transmissions that require 15W-50 or 20W-50 oil recommended for API SM, SL, SJ, SH or SG, including (not limited to) those found in zero-turn, riding and stand-on mowers made by SCAG*, Toro*, Ferris*, Snapper Pro*, Gravely*, Ariens*, Exmark*, Walker*, Hustler*, Wright*, Dixie Chopper*, John Deere*, ...

Will hydraulic fluid work for a hydrostatic transmission? ›

The hydrostatic transmission transmits energy using hydraulic fluid. The usual transmission has two hydraulic devices; one working as a variable displacement pump and the other working as a motor connected by hydraulic lines.

What is universal tractor fluid? ›

These oils, also known as universal tractor fluids (UTF), are high-performance, multi-purpose lubricants engineered to meet or exceed transmission, differential, and hydraulic fluid lubrication requirements.

What viscosity is tractor hydraulic transmission fluid? ›

Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is a SAE viscosity grade 10W-30 and meets API GL-4 gear oil specifications.

What kind of hydraulic oil do you use in a tractor? ›

Mobil Delvac™ Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is an extra high performance multipurpose tractor lubricant engineered to meet or exceed transmission and hydraulic fluid requirements.

Does a hydrostatic transmission use hydraulic fluid? ›

The hydrostatic transmission transmits energy using hydraulic fluid. The usual transmission has two hydraulic devices; one working as a variable displacement pump and the other working as a motor connected by hydraulic lines.

What is the same as transmission fluid? ›

Gear oil is a lubricant for manual transmission while transmission fluid is a lubricant for the automatic transmission of semi-trucks and other heavy and light-duty vehicles. In essence, they perform the same functions.
