Southland crime: Road rage in Orland Park, theft in New Lenox, and more (2024)

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

New Lenox

BURGLARY ARREST: Deon D. Poindexter, 38, 15500 block of Honore Avenue, Harvey, was arrested Aug. 8 on charges of burglary, identity theft and theft, according to Will County court records online. Poindexter took a purse containing bank cards in April 2003 from a car at the Martino Junior High School athletic fields and used the cards for transactions in Joliet, Tinley Park and Harvey, and also cashed a $4,333.32 check drafted on the victim’s account, police said.

Orland Park

ROAD RAGE: Michael A. Delia, 46, 9300 block of Lochwood Place, Tinley Park, was arrested July 24 and accused of reckless conduct after brandishing and firing a replica .357 magnum handgun as he passed a slow-moving car driven by a teen on Harlem Avenue near 151st Street, police said.

Palos Heights

DUI CRASH: Diego Guzman, 27, Rockdale, was arrested Aug. 10 and accused of drunken driving, driving without insurance and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision after driving into a tree in the 13000 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: Keenan Pearson, 32, Chicago, was arrested and accused of unlawful use of a weapon after an officer observed a handgun behind the driver’s seat during an Aug. 3 traffic stop in the 7100 block of 127th Street.

Palos Hills

DUI CRASH: Drake A. Golden, 23, Palos Hills, was arrested Aug. 5 and accused of drunken driving and hit-and-run after colliding with another vehicle and then leaving without providing information to the other driver or contacting investigators, police said.

DRUG SALES: Anthony C. Shaw, 47, Elkhart, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 10 at 103rd Street and Harlem Avenue and accused of illegally possessing a controlled substance with intent to sell, police said. Officers recovered 100-400 grams of suspected cocaine and a large amount of cash when they approached Shaw for illegally parking in a handicapped parking space, police said.

Park Forest

HOME ATTACK: A Chicago man was charged with home invasion/causing injury July 22 after officers heard him threaten the victim over the speaker phone in the 3400 bock of Western Avenue, police said. Otis L. Silverman, 49, remains in Cook County Jail on a no-bond warrant, according to police and sheriff’s records online.

ILLEGAL GUN: Kendall I. Robinson, 22, 20000 block of Lakewood Avenue, Lynwood, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from his vehicle July 24 on Chestnut Street, police said.

SEX OFFENDER: Yevail M. Jones, 35, 100 block of Indianwood Boulevard, Park Forest, was arrested July 25 at his home and accused of failing to register as a sex offender for more than 18 months, police said. Jones was convicted in Cook County of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old when he was 27, according to Illinois State Police records online.

ILLEGAL GUN: A 60-year-old Sauk Village man who lacked a state-mandated gun permit and concealed carry license was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon July 27 after officers recovered a 9 mm handgun and loaded magazine from his car’s spare tire compartment. Homer R. Woodruff, 22200 block of Brookwood Drive, was initially arrested at Juniper and Fir streets for drunken driving when officers found the weapon, police said

DRUNKEN DRIVING: A 41-year-old Richton Park man who drove 50 mph over the speed limit for one-half mile of Western Avenue before going off the road, over a sidewalk and nearly hitting a tree was arrested July 27 and accused of drunken driving, police said. Matthew N. Howery of the 3800 block of Marilyn Drive, taken into custody near Westwood Drive/26th Street, is also accused of aggravated speeding/88 mph in a 35 mph zone, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: Aryan Green, 19, 300 block of Mohawk Street, Park Forest, was arrested July 31 in a car parked in a lot at Somonauk Park and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, being too young to qualify for state-required gun permits and having a gun near a park after officers recovered a 9 mm handgun and loaded extended magazine and determined he lacked permits, police said.

DEADLY WEAPON: Rolanda Foster, 54, 200 block of Kentucky Street, Park Forest, is scheduled to appear at an Aug. 28 preliminary hearing in Cook County court at the Markham branch, charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery/deadly weapon and one count of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation, according to a court spokesperson.

Tinley Park

BATTERY: Raymond A. Busch, 30, of Chicago, is is charged with aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and aggravated domestic battery in a public place July 27 while driving through Park Forest and while stopping the vehicle at a gas station in the 7200 block of 183rd Street, according to police and Will County court records online.

University Park

ARMED CRIMINAL: Derrein D. Johnson, 30, of Hammond, Indiana, is man accused being an armed habitual criminal, being a felon unlawfully possessing/using a firearm and aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and unlawful restraint March 4, according to police and Will County court records online. Johnson, arrested Aug. 1 on a warrant, was being held without bond in the Will County jail, according to sheriff’s records online.
